STORE GUIDE
Walgreen's is a store we used to go to occasionally just to pick up prescriptions. Since beginning our frugal journey we see why it is much more than a pharmacy! Here is the information we think you will find most helpful:

STORE COUPONS
Walgreen's has two types of store coupons. The first can be found in the Easy Saver Catalog in the front of the store or you can download it from here. This catalog will have various coupons that you will be able to use for about a month. Once they expire a new Easy Saver catalog will come out. The other type of store coupons they offer are in their weekly ad found in the Sunday newspaper, in the front of the store or you can find the ad here by clicking on the weekly ad link. What we love about Walgreen's is that you can potentially use 3 coupons on the same product. Confused?!? We were at first too! Basically it works like this -Easy Saver coupon + Weekly Ad coupon + Manufacturer coupon.... all on 1 product! The cashier and the register will except all three! *Remember you can almost always use manufacturers coupons with store coupons.

REGISTER REWARDS
Register rewards are store coupons that print out of a catalina machine next to the registers in all Walgreen's stores. The values vary depending upon the promotions going on at the time. Basically you save them to use like cash on your next purchase. For example if you have a $5 Register Reward and you purchase $6.75 worth of products the RR(register reward) will bring your total down to $1.75!

REBATES
Walgreen's also offers a rebate program that can be found in the Easy Saver catalog (after the coupons). They usually have a handful of Free after rebate items. Most of the time if we can find a manuf. coupon to match up with one of the products we can actually make money purchasing it! There are also other rebate items that aren't free but still could possibly be a great deal. How you ask.... use a manuf coupon to bring the total down! Walgreen's also just added online rebate submissions. This has made the rebate process much faster and easier. All you have to do is go here and register. Once your registered just enter the numbers at the top of your receipts and check the boxes of the products you've purchased! Basically that's it. You can then choose if you want a Walgreen's gift card (you will get 10% more) or a check. I always choose the gift card and then use it to purchase the rebate items for the next month. Once you become a Walgreen's guru you will spend very little out of pocket!

OTHER TIPS
Make sure to sign up for Walgreen's emails. They will sometimes send printable store coupons and other special promotions. Recently there have been a few Friday only printable coupons good for $5 off $20 and a $10 off $30 in store purchases! Pair these with some manuf coupons and you've got some awesome deals!

Walgreen's also has different transferred prescription gift card deals. If you are a new customer and transfer your prescription over you can potentially get a $10-$30 gift card FREE!! Look for these offers in their weekly ads, on their website, in the newspaper, on Catalina coupons that print out after your receipt and in various other spots.

That's it for now! If you have any questions, comments or helpful advice please let us know.

Now go Shop!
And Save!!

I went to walgreens today and found the reach toothbrush on sale for .75 cents. I used the coupons in the diabetes managment book found in pharmacy. I bought 4 toothbrushes and used 2 .50 cents of 1 and 1 1.50 off 2 which could be used with the listerine mouth wash or floss.

Take me as I am said...

Thank you so much for all the info. I am so thankful I found your site and reading this walgreens explanation really helped me out a lot! I didn't know what rr were, or rebates or how all of it works, but I am slowly catching on! Yeah~

sometimes i notice you do a few transactions so you spend very little out of pocket. how do you figure out the best scenario? i'm not very good at math!

Janessa,
I usually make my plan at home before going to the store. That way I'll know exactly what I need to buy in each transaction to spend the least out of pocket. I also usually have a plan A and a plan B, in case products are out of stock.

I have done it successfully many times before, but just this week I tried to stack a manufacturer's coupon with an Instant Value Coupon and the cashier wouldn't let me. I ended up calling corporate after I got home and they had the store manager call me back. He told me that they have begun cracking down on this because the Instant Value Coupons in the Easy Saver booklet are technically manufacturer's coupons so they cannot stack with a regular manufacturer's coupon. He said they have a different system, but they actually are reimbursed by the manufacturer for them. I looked at the Easy Saver booklet, and sure enough the fine print says "manufacturer's coupon." The kinks are not out of the system so the register will not beep, but the cashiers have been told to watch for it and not allow it. Has anyone else encountered this??

I'm on the west coast and am new to couponing. I went into Walgreens today to pick up an Easy Saver book & they told me that they weren't participating in that program or the rebates any longer. Bummer! Anyone else having that problem?

The EasySaver program ended everywhere as of 4/25!:(

Walgreens isn't using easysaver books anymore.

I have gone to two different Walgreens in our area and neither will take coupons that are worth more than the item. They won't adjust it down, or anything. Do you know their policy?

Thanks, Alexis

I have a question today I went to Walgreens I had a $5 RR coupon I bought $28 worth of items used my manufactured coupons my total at that point was $11 but the cashier would not take my RR coupon I insisted she try and it beeped she pointed out that it was a manufacture coupon too and I could not use it.So I do not understand it says RR can be redeemed next puchase. But manager says not always. Is this true?

I went to walgreens tonite. I did the Vaseline Infusiom and several other RR items.I informed the cashier I was doing two transactions. The cashier asked me if I planned on paying for these items with the RR's I received on first transaction. I said yes. She told me that the store would not allow this,I asked her why, I had before. She said too many customers were using coupons and the store did not like to deal with them. I informed her that the store should be thankful that coupons allowed customers to shop there. Has anyone else had this problem.

I work for Walgreens and can give a tiny bit of insight... At my store, we have some die-hard coupon people as well as waaaaaaaaaaaaay too many oblivious to savings people. I do know the register will have a fit if the coupons exceed the amount of purchase. Coupons cannot pay for the tax on the items, but the RR can go up to that point. If you are close (total to RR you have), try adding a cheap item to your purchase... A lot of times that will raise to total high enough that the RR will be accepted. Remember, after coupons (and before RR) your total may be $5.05 and you have a $5 RR, but more than $0.05 is tax, so it isn't going to work.

As for redeeming the RR on next purchase and doing multiple transactions... The technical store "policy" is that you cannot use the RR on the same "visit." My manager's policy, however, is to go ahead and do the multiple transactions. His reasoning is that once you leave the store and re-enter, you are now, technically, on your second visit for the day. There is absolutely nothing to prevent you from walking out to the parking lot and re-entering as many times as you'd like to do your transactions as you like. He feels to save our customers the hassle we should do our best to accomodate the multiple transaction scenario.

That said, as a cashier, I would like to request that you have an idea of how you want to ring up your order, etc. I use coupons and respect (and will help) those who do, HOWEVER... It is very difficult when a customer has no idea how to do the order and wants you to scan everything, try the coupons, doesn't like the combo and wants to start over...and repeats this a half dozen times. Once or twice even and I have no problem, but each time I have to page a manager to void it. I have had people that try to void the transaction 6 or 8 times looking for the best value, they won't listen when myself or the manager try to tell them the best scenario (we usually know the most cost effective approach- we've already seen numerous people come through purchasing the same items), and then they become frustrated with us each time they start over. We are more than happy to help you, we will figure it out with you, but please don't use the register repeatedly as your personal calculator. In this situation, it's not uncommon to spend 45 minutes ringing up one customer!

One more tip... Most of the Walgreens cosmetic counters have a variety of coupons behind the register. It never hurts to ask if they have any coupons or samples. Also, the Saturdates that are held once a month are great for discounted cosmetics/perfumes and samples.
