Walgreens: Softsoap Deal is DEAD!

Sadly, it looks like the Softsoap deal is DEAD... no more free Softsoap. Thanks so much to all of you for reporting the deal not working. I probably wouldn't have known otherwise. I'm so sorry to those of you that headed out today in hopes of snagging some free bottles. I promise, though, there will be more great deals to come!:)

Can they end a deal if it is advertised in the weekly circular? That doesn't seem like very good business practice?

It worked here in Connecticut. Try another store!

Yeah, it worked here in Enfield, CT about 2pm or so. I managed to do two transactions & got two bottles. SO now I still have one coupon left for a free bottle. I will go later this week & get it. I will write here if I get back another coupon for a free bottle when I do that! Loved this deal!

Anon #1,

The deal is advertised: when you purchase one you will get a coupon for a free one. You will still be able to do that. What you won't be able to do is use a free coupon and then get another free coupon... I guess I should have said the "rolling" is dead. It was most likely a "glitch" in the system that was fixed and from the other two comments it may not have been fixed in all stores as of yet.

I just got back from my Walgreens at 4:22pm central time and it is still working out here. So you may want to try another Walgreens. I ended up getting 4 purchases with 3 free.

I got 4 free bottles today at 2 different stores in NH, on my 4th bottle it stopped printing out more free ones though.

I bought one and got three free today. I then went to another store to look for the Quaker items that the first store was out of and tried again and they said that if I used a Softsoap coupon to buy a Softsoap then they would tear up the new coupon that printed out. I really don't like that store. You may find it still works at some stores that are nicer. :)

I just got back from Walgreens. Totally bummed, I went earlier and got the softsoap, and then went back later to use the free coupon and picked up some of the Red Baron that's on sale. The catalina printed, but the cashier refused to give it to me. I didn't feel like arguing, but what is the policy on that? Do they have to give it to you if it prints? Don't they have to tear it up if it's really not valid?? I feel like the cashier can just go use it himself then.

It ended today in east Texas. My Mom and I kept rolling the same free coupon for the Softsoap and ended up with like 10 bottles. Don't worry!! Some of this will be given away as well. I just don't think that $1.98 each (if you are only allowed 2) is that great of a deal!!! After the 10, it quit printing. They even had a manager come and redo it, but no coupon spit out. They were nice enough to try. We have a really great store!!! So, not all stores in Central time are still working. I guess it is just a play it by ear. You could probably buy 1 and then get your 1 free one. If it doesn't print another FREE coupon, then return BOTH of them. Don't do anything deceiving it. Just return both if you don't get a coupon after the first coupon. I guess if enough people return all their items, they might get the point.

Wow...for those of you that the cashier "refused" to give you the catalina, or to tear it up, I would DEFINITELY contact corp. Although, I will say that I contacted them a couple of weeks ago about an issue (twice) and still nothing. I had issues at CVS and Randall's, and was contacted within 2 days. CVS even gave me $5 in ECB that I printed the next time I went in. I was in retail management for 10 years, and that kind of behavior is appalling, and should not be tolerated. If corporate wants you to have a coupon, it will print one out, it is ABSOLUTELY NOT up to the cashier to decide! If you are nervous about contacting corporate or a District Manager, I have experience, and would be glad to do it for you. (My issue was not so bad, so I am not pressing mine.) I think we all have good days and bad days couponing! Today for me was not so good! :(

Thanks again for Hip2Save!!! I LOVE this site!!!!!!!

It doesn't seem right to not give the customers the catalinas if they are printing out. I was still able to get a free coupon here in MO as of this afternoon.

Is it just me, or is Wags getting harder to work with, are all the managers yelling at the cashiers about coupons or what is the deal?!?! I have been having a lot of problems the last couple weeks using coupons at Wags tho. I tried to use the $10 off 2 Glucerna cereals when the RR deal was active and the cashier told me she wouldn't take the coupon because it was 2 cents over the actual price of the cereal (and I had multiple items in my cart to allow for that). When I told her I didn't want the cereal then, she sighed loudly, took the items off my total and then threw the boxes of cereal on the floor behind her (I mean, she really hurled them)! Needless to say I was astounded at her reaction. And then yesterday, I tried using my Reynolds Wrap $1.00 coupons this week and was told I couldn't use them because of overage (and, again, I had several other items in my cart). Wags is starting to be more of a hassle than it's worth and that's too bad because I don't have CVS, Riteaid, Publix or any places like that around here. At least I still have my super friendly Target!

One last note, thanks for the great info Hip2save, LOVE your blog!

I think I'll be calling corporate tomorrow. I just tried, but they were closed? Should I be calling Catalina instead??

I'm not really one for confrontation, so now would really be the best time for me to call because I'm "fired up" a bit and tomorrow I might be more of a pushover, lol.

I have a question regarding the Dove deal at Walgreens. Is that promo still going on?

Anonymous said...

I stopped on the way home from work about 5:30. Deal was dead. I am in the Marietta, GA area.
But! I did grab 10 yesterday :)

i have a question but its not related to this article..
how did you choose this blog template and change how its laid out

Hip2Save said...

Anonymous,

You should call corporate. Them refusing to give you a Catalina that printed out after your purchase is WAY out of line! I would call corporate about the issue and then call Catalina (1-888-COUPON) to see if they'll send you the coupon in the mail.

I'm so sorry that happened!

Lopez9,
The Dove deal ended last Saturday.

bianca6195,
I'm honestly not sure. My sister created the whole layout for me, so I'm really not quite sure how she did it!

The coupon did not roll today in Michigan

On the Halls cough drops at Walgreens, there was a coupon in the inserts for a BOGO free. That made them even better - about 20 cents a bag.

Anonymous said...

It didn't work here in IL. I used a free coupon and no free catalina for another came out :(

Anonymous said...

Didn't work in Indiana...

Anonymous said...

It didn't work in MN. I should have gone yesterday. I'll learn!

Anonymous said...

I got about 5 of them before it ended this morning and they said corporate sent out an email...thus stopping the printing of the register rewards to be rolled. I'm grateful for my 5!! Yippee

Do you have a button. I was looking but I didn't see one. I would love to put it on my blog.

If you can believe it I still don't have a button. I need to talk with my computer savvy sister about putting one together for me. I'm hoping it will be soon...

it stopped rolling for me after my 4th free bottle..

Leslie said...

I was able to get 6 in total for free...doesn't seem like a lot compared to some, but, that will last me like 2 yrs....I'm the only one in my house that would use it...but the rolling aspect of the deal is dead in Bellingham, WA.

I got 23 bottles at one store, seeling them out, and 19 at another before they kicked me out. I have one coupon left.

Christine Smith said...

IMO it's the people who got 20+ bottles who killed this deal

Just so the readers are aware...when there is/was a system error with the catalina coupon printers, cashiers are instructed to allow purchases as the ad states, so for example...the ad reads buy one get one free on the soft soap. The cashiers if following policy, would allow customers to buy one soap, total the transaction, then the customer recieves a free coupon. In the instance of the free coupons printing out when you redeemed your initial free coupon, the cashier was instructed to destroy the coupon and kindly explain that it is a critical system error with the coupon machines. If the cashier was saving the coupons a member of management should be notified. It is grounds for disciplinary action. As an employee of Walgreens and an avid coupon shopper, please ask as many questions as you would like. I will do my best to answer them for you. Thank you to all my customers who understood the policy...you have no idea how much we appreciate your understanding when registers or printers are not working properly.

so when you say the deal is dead, do you mean it won't print out a free coupon at all (its advertised in the store) or do you mean it just won't print another when you use the 1st catalina?

Hip2Save said...

No, I mean it won't print out an additional one after the 1st RR prints.
