"Follow Me Monday" Walgreens Shopping!

Today is Monday and that means my third edition of "Follow Me Monday"! Today's video is all about Walgreens shopping! It's a 2 part video because there was just too much information to pack into one segment. Before watching the videos, I just wanted to remind you all that we have still not perfected our video taping skills. I know that one of my issues is talking too fast and I'm trying to work on that. Some of the video is a little shaky and we had to cut out some parts to shorten the length, but we're trying our best. I hope you all find these videos helpful and are able to walk away with lots of new information about Walgreens shopping!

Also, I want to let you all know how much I appreciate all the feedback and comments in regards to "Follow Me Monday"! I am so excited about this new weekly feature... stay tuned for lots of entertaining and informative videos to come!

Part 1

Part 2

I usually have at least 10 transactions at walgreens. Last Sunday I had 20!! Thanks for the video. I didn't know to look for orange tags before. I love walgreens and cvs now that I have found your site. I NEVER shopped at walgreens or cvs before this unless I was looking for a certain item only they carry. Thank you , thank you thank you. You have save my family over 1200.00 since june.

Love the video. One tip I have is "Get to know your cashiers". My normal store greets me by name when I walk in. They know I am not doing anything illegal and they cheer on my savings. The Walgreens at the next town over I wont even go into anymore. They are nothing but a problem. Even after months of calls to Corp and talking with them they wont even let me use a register reward on a register reward item (of diffrent brands). That store is not worth my time. Sometimes no matter what you do they just don't care. Corp tried to help, but they can't make a store do anything. Corp finally just told me to take my business to another location and sent me $25.00 gift card for my problems. It really does depend on the store and cashiers. Great job, hope my stoe will still have a few deals left on the shelf when I feel better later this week.

Love your videos!! I tried to do 2 transactions at Walgreens last week and was told that they weren't allowed to do that anymore-glad that isn't the case everywhere! Maybe I will just try a different store.

Love it! Love it!

I finally stepped foot into a Walgreens for the first time last week. Unfortunatly though, it was with my husband and it was an in and out kind of deal. I did look around as much as I could to see what was around.

On the RR and multipal transactions though..how many RR coupons can you use per perchase? Just one? If so, what do you do if you only have like a $1 or $2 RR to use. Do you just make it another transaction and buy like gum or something and get it free? I'm a slow learner lol.

Also, when you do multipal transactions that generate RR, do you, or can you, use them for the other transactions?

Like say you buy 10 items in one transaction and get 5 RR for certain products. Can you take one of those RR and use it on transaction 2,3 etc.? I see they expire 2 weeks from getting them so I'm just wanting to see how you get rid of them. My Walgreens is about 45 minutes away, and I don't have a chance to get to it very often.

Thanks for all you do! And your such a cutie! :) Love the videos..keep em up!!

Gosh, you are so cute:) I went to Walgreen's today, too. I saved quite a lot myself, but still got a lot of tips from your great video. Just so I am clear as to the order of presenting coupons to the cashier-
Register Rewards, then other manufacturer coupons, then Walgreens. Is that right? THANKS SO MUCH! You are saving me a fortune!! I actually post my receipts on the frig. to make me smile:)

Anonymous said...

Thank you so much for the video instruction guide :) - You look so cute and fun!

I love your blog and have saved so much money by coming here and reading about all the deals and ways to use coupons.

Yayyyyyyy

I know this store seems confusing but once you get the hang of it you will love it! Use manufacturer first, store coupon and then finish off with register rewards. Also you can't pay tax with register rewards so use your subtotal to figure how much in register rewards you can use to pay for your purchase.

Very nice! I can't wait for CVS!

Yes Walgreens SCARES me. I love a good deal I just need to be brave and with your video I know I can do it. I am just not a fan of crabby cashiers!

Love the videos! This is off topic, but you are sooo fortunate to still be wearing t-shirts in October! You must be in the south and not stuck in a the wooly mitt of Michigan.

Thank you for doing Walgreens today! I was just there, confused and then I come back and there's your video. Thank you!!! (to you and your "camera man")

Question -

1. I found out today that you can only have as many coupons as items... but you had a total of three coupons for two visine's. Do the store coupons count as a coupon? Or did you need to get an "uncouponed" filler?

Notes from my trip today -

1. The cashier told me that I had to have as many items as coupons and that includes RR. So if you buy one item (like my dh's nicorette gum), then I can't give him a handful of RR to bring the cost down.

2. I tried to give her a coupon that said Fred Meyer (Kroger) on the bottom, but on the top clearly states that it's a manufacturers coupon and she said that she couldn't use it.

3. I'm annoyed because my prices are higher than yours! LOL My visine was $4.99 before coupons.

4. I've learned to not go on Sunday's - they don't seem to have things marked until Monday.

Thank you for all you do!! I hope you recieve at least half of the "goodness" you send out! You are helping so many famileis and have forever changed my outlook on coupons! Thank you!

Thanks for the video. It was very helpful!

How can you tell the difference between a weekly register reward and a monthly register reward at Walgreens?

Amber said...

Great video :) I've been shopping Walgreens for a while and have gotten over my initial jitters. It can be pretty intimidating - but I'm sure your video is SO helpful for those just starting out or haven't gotten up the nerve to try it yet. Thanks for all you do on this site - you're the best!

Just got my binder and baseball card protectors today to create my coupon binder. Your last video was so helpful, I knew exactly where to go to buy everything and what to get. Although I am currently out of work I feel like I am contributing to my family by helping them save money through the use of this site and your tips. You are a wonderful person for taking time out to share your tips.

Thanks so much. I had just had a bad experience with a Walgreens in a different town this morning. I thought it was just me. They don't put any monthly rr deals on shelves. What a pain. It is encouraging to see that sometimes transactions for others go wrong as well. You are so helpful.

I love these follow me Monday videos. I am a huge hip2save addict!!! I tell all my friends about it. I went to walgreens this weekend and got 3 razors, 3 halls refreshers, 3 herbal essence hair products, six packs of gum, 4 theraflu packets, 2 hershey bliss candy bars(fillers), chapstick, and lays chips (my one year old was freaking out in the store so I grabbed the first thing I saw to make her happy!!!) After three transactions I had spent $27 and left with $26 in register rewards. Yep $1 for everything!!! I never would be able to do these kind of deals without this blog. Thanks so much. Once you figure the walgreens thing out it is DEFINATELY worth the time!

Katie said...

I have a question for you. You can't use a RR to buy another thing from the same parent company, right. Ex: Can't use a RR you got from Reach to buy Listerine because they are the same parent company. Can you confirm this?

Also, say I do a couple of the same deal and thus get a couple of the same RR. Can I use those RR on the same transaction or while that cause beepage? Ex: I've done the Halls cough drops transactions a couple of time. I then tried to buy four newspapers and a coke on Sunday. I used a $2.50, $1, and $1 RR reward, and tried to use another $1, but it beeped. (All $1 from Halls last week.) It obviously wasn't an issue of using a RR from the same company or of having more coupons than items. Any thoughts?

Alyssa said...

Glad to see some people are having good luck with Walgreens! I've vowed never to go there again because they have too many rules on their register rewards. They should take lessons from CVS like how they should print even if you use a coupon on the item or they should print if you pay with a register reward from a different deal! I always have a problem with mine printing!

Collin,

You absolutely are SOOOO awesome! I couldn't say it enough times, that even though I've saved my family thousands of dollars since May, I almost wish I had waited to see these videos, because they are SOOO helpful (and much easier than figuring it out the "hard" way!).

To help others, this is the nemonic device I use to always get the order of my coupons correct (so there are FAR less beeps!):

Real Men Work

1. Present Register Rewards first.

2. Present all Manufacturer's coupons second.

3. Present all in-ad and IVC Wags coupons last.

Also, in store value coupons (IVCs) or in-ad coupons do NOT count toward your "coupon total".

I hope these tips help others, as I find Wags to be my most difficult store to coupon at, but it gets much easier with time.

Thanks again Collin...you rock!

My Wag says that u can’t get the item for free and u cant use a coupon to get a coupon. Thus when i used a coupon for my shavers (from last week) i did not get a RR……
What is that abt?? Can someone explain.

Thx in advance.

LOVE IT!!! I too have like 10 transactions everytime I go to Walgreen's or if I am getting diapers then I just put all my RR items together and then purchase my diapers with all my register rewards (and fillers). Thanks for showing us how the coupon overlap works when using both a Walgreen's and a MQ. I have always been curious of which way to do it withut getting a beep!

The Brindley's said...

Anon 2:48....A manager at my Wag's told me that they are to rip up any RR generated when using another RR, but at our Wag's they do not do that. Unfortunetly, it sounds like yours does. Maybe just a differenct cashier would help.

I wish you were my neighbor! You're the cutest thing. I'm confused about using RR to pay/ partially pay for an item that should print off a RR: I know you can't use say, one generated on soap for more soap, but what about using one received last week from, for example, crackers, on the soap? I was told today they can't accept any RR on a purchase that will print a RR. PLEASE clarify! You're the best. Thanks!

Thanks so much for this helpful info! Question can you use rr's on photo prints?

Kristin said...

I have a coupon savings related question. I find that I can make money by buying certain items. Like the 3 theraful's last week but I won't need 3 considering I already have a stocked medicine cabinet from other deals. So I set them to the side to donate but I don't know where to donate them. I donate most everything else to the Salvation Army but mine doesn't take meds. My question is 1st do you buy things that you won't need b/c they are free or make you money and 2nd if so where do you donate these items? I've heard you mention gift baskets but I can't imagine giving someone a basket with Zantac in it lol!

Thanks and I love your monday episodes!

NO--you cannot use an RR on MILK!!! No useable on dairy. There is actually a kind of long list on the back of what they are not good on.

Thanks!

This was awesome and glad to see it is not just me that has to walk the cashiers through my transactions at times ;)

I was bummed when I went through my coupons and couldn't find the Simply Asia one. I think I must have already used it. Oh well thanks for the heads up 25 cents is still a good deal!

Jennifer Kowal said...

Great videos! my roc coupon also wouldn't work so the manager had to change the price. Also my 2 free super poligrip coupons wouldn't go through so the manager again had to come over. i just noticed my visine rang up 4.79 & not 3.99 (before coupons) so i will go back for a price adjustment. Spent $5.62 oop only got one $2 RR so really $3.62 & saved $48.16 + more after i get my prce adjustment tomorrow.

Anonymous said...

I think your videos are great for really showing how all of this works. I would caution readers on one thing tho - sometimes it's easy to say, wow, I spent $10 and got $8 worth of Register Rewards so it was really only $2! No, it was $10. Ten dollars came out of your pocket/budget/whatever. The $8 you got in RR will go toward another deal, which hopefully will generate more RR and you can keep your oop low. I think it's easy to get carried away thinking that everything you get is 'free' but you need to pay attention to how much you're actually paying when you do your deals. BTW, I speak from experience, lol!

I agree that I think the main objective at Wags (and most stores) should be to minimize OOP (out-of-pocket). I try to get mine under a dollar subtotal for each transaction. I do this now because I started keeping track of OOP awhile back, and it got up to like hundreds of dollars in no time! This is important, because this is how you really save YOUR MONEY!

You know, who cares if you can get tons of RR if you never use them? That's not saving money! I consider a low OOP the top priority!

I find the discussion about OOP and RRs very interesting. I agonize over this topic all the time. I'm happy to get something "free" after RR, but then I have to worry about what to spend the RR on. I have to choose either 1) Another "deal" (and hopefully the RR won't beep due to the deal being the same parent company), or 2) Something that I need to buy anyway (but this is a challenge because Wags is overpriced on so many things). Would love to hear others' thoughts on this topic

Anonymous said...

You're right the RR does exclude dairy, I never knew that! But I'm sure if you were buying milk and several other items it wouldn't know which item you were using if for.

Anonymous said...

Your really improving and seem comfortable on "air" - where do your kids go? pre-k? so quite - we are jealous. mary

one more thing. In an earlier post someone said to get to know the cashier at Walgreens. I so agree! I have gotten to know the cashier at my local Walgreens and she is so nice and understands that I am in there to use coupons and get good deals! She always is trying to help me find other good deals and she really makes the whole experience alot easier! I also have found a good cashier at the Walgreens in the town that I work at. She doesn't know me like my other cashier does, but I know that she is good cashier and she always is helping me find what I need and she also understands us couponers! So even if you don't become best friends with your Walgreens cashier, you can find one that you know will help you and understands what you are doing! In my experience the chashiers at the cosmetic counters seem to be most helpful!

Love these videos! It seems Wags is a lot like CVS. I also think making a good connection with the cashier makes a huge difference in the transaction. I find that if I am pleasant and greet the cashier with a smile and friendly comment, it usually makes them more accepting to my coupons. Often I even end up giving them websites so they can learn themselves!

A couple of questions...
You returned your filler item. Did that affect your overall total? Couldn't you just always return your filler item then?
I had NO IDEA you could use two coupons on a buy one get one free deal. Is that just a Walgreens thing?

Anon 11:03 - No, it's not a WAGs thing! You should be able to use two coupons on any B1G1 (buy one, get one) sale! I LOVE those! Esp for razor cartridges! I often get two packs of cartridges for $2 or less!

I went to Walgreens last night and had a problem using the ROC Walgreens coupon. I used the $3 off I printed online, but not the $5 Walgreens flyer coupon. They told me that the %5 off was on a more expensive item. What would you have said in this situation to try to get them to take it?

Leah said...

I, too, was unable to use the Walgreens ROC coupon. The cashier said that it was for the other ROC products. I tried to (gently) argue with her that it says, "ANY skin care product", but she still wouldn't let me use it. Bummer.

I am an assistant manager at a Walgreens store. Congratulations on the great deals!

My suggestion to everyone is to try to check out in Cosmetics. Depending on the store of course, the beauty advisors are usually a little more friendly and have more time to help you go through the coupon madness than the front cashiers do. Most of the beauty advisors are happy to help since they are expected to ring up a certain percentage of cosmetic items at their register and a lot of coupons are for these items.

The only problem I found in your latest video was that you said the manufacturer will honor two coupons when you buy an item and get one free. Walgreens has been cracking down on this. They believe when you buy the first item you can use one manufacturer coupon but since the second item is being given to you for free and you are not paying for it, you shouldn't be able to use the second one. Luckily, the register will not normally catch this. Unfortunately, our district office sent out a notice to all the cashiers about this so they are trying to pay better attention to it.

Happy Walgreens shopping!

I am also confused. Can I use more then One register reward in a transaction when checking out?
Can I pay with a register reward and still recieve rewards?

Steve, You can used two or more reg rewards, but you got to have that many products...plus if you want to get more reg rewards make sure they didnt come from the same product or same company..

The only thing being wasted here is you on this blog.
With the bad economy she is only trying to help those willing to put forth alot of effort to clip coupons and look for deals. It takes alot of time and patience to clip coupons, search blogs, find good deals, and then go shopping. Yes it can be fun, but my husband refers to it as "my other job". I'm a stay at home mom and couponing allows us to have a little extra for our children.

Kudos to you Collin! I love what you are doing!

Keep up the good and HARD work!
