can someone help confirm or clarify? do i need to have one item per MFG Q? or do i need to have one item per COUPON (doesn't matter if it's mfg or store, etc). I've been trying to figure this out and even some of the store managers have told me different things. anyone?? TIA!!!

I still cannot find the healthy savings booklet!!

Hi Mama,

Yes, ONLY manufacturer coupons count toward your coupon to item ration, NOT store coupons. Hope that helps!:)

At walgreens it works like this:

you're only allowed 1 manufacturer coupon per item but you can combine that with a walgreens coupon. plus you can tack on a register rewards (which is treated like a coupon) to any purchase but you can't have more manufacturer coupons and register rewards than items in your purchase. However Walgreens coupons don't apply to you coupon per item total. They work like target coupons...like a bonus!

For instance buy the Vaseline lotion with the manufacturer coupon and a candy bar. That way you can also pay with register rewards...but if you have a manufacturer coupon for the candy bar you need to add an additional item to use the register reward.

ok, thanks for the info - that is the way i've been trying to do a few deals. i've made sure i have the same amount of items, as mfg q's (counting rr's too), but for some reason the register still beeps on my last q... if i then add a filler (pencil, etc) the coupon then scans?? wags is soooo confusing for me.. don't know why i can't do it :)

Kristin said...

ok to clarify you can't roll the register rewards meaning you can't get a register reward for buying nyquill and then use that register reward to buy more nyquill in another transaction. You have to see what company put out the reg reward you want to use and make sure you don't have a product you want to buy made by that same company. Like you can't use a reg reward from buying j&j baby powder to by j&j baby shampoo it wont work. You have to be crafty and switch the rewards up, that's why its smart to get a variety of reg rewards from different products and different companies.

Once again, the mq for the Ricola must have been regional. It seems like here in the Northwest region of the country, we don't ever get the good coupons. Bummer. I could never find the Hall's cough drops stocked in the stores either. No cough drop deals for us here in our household of sick-os'.

What happens if they get the q's in a different order? I've had cashiers sift through and pick out what they want to scan regardless of how I hand them off. Is this special that it will cause a problem?

Kristin said...

Sometimes yes! Always hand the manufacturer coupons first, then the walgreens coupons, then the reg rewards. Sometimes they don't even program their stupid system with their own coupons. I've had to ask for a manager a few times because the cashiers don't know what to do and thus they get frustrated then angry. But like Hip2Save says you aren't doing anything wrong. They know their coupon policy. If they give you problems tell them you wont be shopping at that location because another walgreens will gladly accept your coupons and follow their own guidelines.

I keep all my coupons in my hand and hand them over in piles: manufacturer coupon, walgreens, reg rewards.

thanks for all the help everyone - yes, i was aware about not being able to roll rr's (learned the hard way ;). I was purchasing the (3)theraflus yesterday, used 3 mfg q's, plus the wag's q (from the healthy savings booklet). when my cashier scanned the wags q, it beeped. he tried again and wouldn't work, he called a manager he tried it and it also beeped. So, he told me i couldn't use it because it had a pic of the powder theraflu, and i was buying the liquid. I had done this same deal before and it had worked... what gives?? any ideas on why it wouldn't work?

Kristin said...

like I said sometimes they don't program their own coupons into their system. Why I don't know. Plus maybe you just got lucky earlier. Cashiers have the power to pretty much override anything. Maybe he/she ok-ed something they shouldn't have.

Blessed Mommy said...

yeah - thanks! i will (maybe) get the hang of it someday - lol!

Just a tip for those of you who don't get the "good" coupons, you can always purchase some on ebay. I have done this many times and have been very happy with doing it this way!

I live in the Northwest (Washington state) and I got the BOGO Ricola coupon and totally took advantage of this deal! Thanks!

I didn't get the ricola coupon either here in OHIO! :(

Here in Chicago, I got the Q but it was for a FREE bag

Abby, You must be in western Washington. Here in eastern Washington is where we seem to get left out of the good q's.

Mclovin2save - I have several of the Healthy Savings Booklets. If you want to send me your mailing address I'd be happy to get one in the mail for you. I'll get it in the mail ASAP so you can take advantage of this weeks deals. Email me kristin_hennessy@yahoo.com

For Couponmomma---just a heads up--I also live in midwest and get coupons in the Chicago Tribune...I also thought the coupon was for a free bag (I was so happy for another great free item), but in small print below the "free" part, it says you have to buy another bag 19 count or larger....

We did get the B1G1 Ricola in last Sunday's newspapers in the S.F. Bay Area and Alameda and Santa Clara Counties. I've gone to two Walgreen's and no Healthy Savings booklets. We never had the coloring books either. I did find the Diabetic Book with coupons in the pharmacy and one store had the September coupon booklet in Sept. But nothing for October...

Anonymous said...

I've taken advantage of this great deal! I never found the coloring books til' I went to a store 20 mins away and they had a ton on clearance for .49cents! I bought 10, didn't want to hog them all, lol! Anyway, I was told to buy a paper from the Detroit area even though we live just into IN and the coupons are way better. So true! Our local papers don't have half the coupons the Detroit Free Press does. Has something to do w/ the metropolitan areas. Go figure. I don't think it should make a difference.

Okay help me out here? Our store carries the Ricola for $2.49. So after the B1G1F it's $2.49-$1 from the healthy savings booklet leaves me at $1.49. Now when I use the ad for 2/$3 how much is going to come off? ...$1.98?

Debbie said...

You can't use register rewards to pay any tax either, so that may have been why you neded to ad a filler so it would go through.

As fot ther theraflu deal. I tried that and did the coupon out of the book first and when it got to the MQ the register would only take 1 and the cashier said it was because the coupon said 1 per purchase. I tried to explain that each one I purchased was a purchase and she said I think they put that on the coupon to confuse you. I will try today either trying it with triaminic & threaflu together or use an internet coupon and 1 from the paper. Has anyone tried the triaminic and theraflu together?

I went to wags yesterday and did the Ricola deal. I had no choice but to go to the old bitty cashier. Since the two wags coupons made the ricola $1.00/bag, she only took off $1 with my bogo coupon. My wags coupon for the theraflu also beeped because I was buying the liquid instead of the powder. I told her I didn't want it then and she had to take all of my theraflu's off my transaction, and all 3 of my MQ's she had already rung up for it. People in line behind me were not happy.

Then I went to another wags 5 minutes away and bought the powder theraflu. I'm just bummed because I'd much rather have the liquid.

It's crazy how different these stores are! I bought the liquid with no problems yesterday! We didn't get the ricola coupon either. I have noticed the difference in papers. I subcribe to the local paper and then purchase extras of a paper in a bigger city next to us and sometimes the q's are different!

I can not find the healthy savings book either!! :(

No Ricola coupon here in Austin, TX here! Bummer

Anonymous said...

There are stacks of these healthy savings booklets at some of our Walgreens and then others don't seem to have them at all or they have already ran out. I suggest looking at several different stores.

Anonymous said...

How can you use 3 coupons for 2 items? Walgreens won't ever let me do it, unless I get a filler item, even if one is their own coupon?

Anonymous said...

I think # 4 answered it; I'll try, but ran into the problem just last night with beepage.

Anonymous said...

oh shoot! I already got 8 bags but didn't realize there was an in-ad coupon! I paid $4.00 for my 8 bags :-( Oh well... still a good price I guess.

Stacis Savings said...

Sometimes you need to ask for the Healthy Savings Book or any other. My Walgreens didnt have them out so I asked the manager, he went in back and came back with a brand new pack of them and opened them for me. It pays to go the extra step when couponing

Melissa.....
Yes it will take off so that you end up with a negative balance.

1) make sure you hand the coups in the correct order BOGO,2/3 in ad, .50 savings book otherwise possible beepage in which case they will readjust BOGO to 1.50 off
2) make sure you have something else purchased (candy bar, chapstick) that the overage will apply to otherwise beepage because the register will not allow a negative balance.

I did it yesterday several times buying 4 bags at once and 4 capachinos with 1/1 coup and 1.29 in ad coup and got all for .14+tax each time.

I was in Walgreens a couple weeks ago and one of my coupons didn't want to work (I think it might have been one of theirs) and the cashier was confused but then she said that she needed to subtotal before she could do the coupon. Maybe that's why coupons aren't working?? Just a thought.

I went to Walgreens today to do the Ricola deal and was told they need to do WAGS coupons first, then manufacturer, then RRs. The cashier I had said they can't do manufacturer's first. Has anyone else heard this?

Anonymous said...

They are $2.49 at my Walgreen's in Oregon and after the coupons I paid $.50 because of the order the cashier took them off (not the same order I handed them over!) I only got $1.50 off on the free bag because he did it last instead of first.

Anonymous said...

On sale 2for$2 so the cashier took off $1. on the Q I used last night (we don't get overage in CA). I am rolling over in small transactions $1RR baby powder to buy the gum, the $1RR gum to buy baby powder, etc. Thankfully they print the company name on the RR's!

just went to walgreens tonight for the ricola deal, and was told by the manager that they only accept one walgreens coupon. so i could only use the 2/$3 in ad coupon! plus the B1G1 ricola. i was pretty bugged...she also told me that some walgreens have different policies! shouldn't they all be the same?

does anyone know??
