CVS: Zhu Zhu Pets Available for $9.99!

I just wanted to give you all a heads up that starting today, 12/6, CVS will have the Zhu Zhu Pets available for $9.99. These seem to be very popular toys, so if you want to snatch one up, I would suggest heading over there right away!

Most of the stores in my area got them in all last week and are now sold out! I would call yours and ask! AND...they are limiting to 2 a customer! Some are keeping them behind the register so be sure and ASK!

Got there at 6:45am - was able to get 2!!!

Wow! Called at 7:30 and they were sold out!!

I had to call 15 CVS stores but tracked one down. A important note though....they are reporting on the news (after I chased all over to get one) that they are made in china and contain materials harmful to children. There might be a recall issued. Search zhu zhu pets unsafe, or toxic and there are roughly 500 news reports from the last 2 days or so. UUGGHHH! My son will be so disappointed.

Check zhu zhu pets website. They have a press release that states the pets have passed all testing.

Our stores all got them on Thursday and they were gone in 20 minutes.

my stores open at 10 am here. Im going to try and be there right when the doors open to see if I can get one.

went up to my cvs here in surprise arizona (reems/greenway) they are sold out..lady said they were gone in 2 hours...said this was LAST WEEK tho...said they may get some tues or wed, and there will be a limit probably, because people are selling them on ebay

I had no idea these were so popular. Our local Farm & Fleet had these about a month ago during the opening of their "Toyland" and you had to get them at customer service desk so they could limit how many people were buying, but they had alot. I guess I should have grabbed one then. What a strange little toy. I am not a big fan of rodents myself!!

Please. Goodguide.com gave a basic Lego set an even lower safety rating than Zhu Zhu Pets, and I went through most of my childhood trying to get Lego apart with my teeth.
But Goodguide has gotten a *ton* of publicity for their rating of Zhu Zhu Pets, haven't they?
Let's keep some perspective, people!

10am CST on Sunday Shopko.com said they will be selling these...you have to pay shipping though.

i was just kind of thinking about these "hot" gifts of christmas past...tickle me elmos for 300bucks...all the way back to my youth and cabbage patch kids...
why are we willing to go thru all this mess to get our kids exactly what they want when they want? you know after christmas the market will be flooded with these @ non scalper prices...will your kid be crushed if santa does not get them one? idk..i love seeing my sons face light up but upon further reflection on the history of this kind of stuff..im leaning towards letting it go and getting one whent hey are more avail and giving it as a reward for report card...that way silly santa doesnt get all the coolness points for it as well...LOL

I ran out and only 1 of 5 stores had any left and that store only had 1. It was around 10:20 when I got there there though and I'm thrilled to get 1. Now I only need 1 more....

SHopko is now out. So bugged. They let me add 3 to my cart and after I checked out it let me know that they no longer were in stock and my order did not go through! Ugghhhh!!!

Anonymous said...

Why are they so hard to get when they are made in St. Louis Mo....I called the company and got a book and that how I got all mine...Maybe try that...

TRU and CVS out here have been for weeks, false advertising in ad's this week......

Anonymous said...

Not sure about these now that I read this in todays news on Comcast.

http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-general/20091206/US.Zhu.Zhu.Pets.Safety/

Candice said...

I called 5 CVS's around me and all of them were out but 1 CVS.
They said they sold out last week, so the AD is false in my eyes. I did go to the CVS that had them in stock and they were limiting the pets and accessories to 1 per customer.

Anonymous said...

Every day toys r us has a new shipment of these in.

Anonymous said...

Out of stock. Call first. Toysrus has the giant hamster city for $129 (still a rip off), but they will refund if you find it cheaper...

Anonymous said...

Yeah, most of the stores stocked them last week (the day they were posted about on this site), and they sold out by evening in most cases. Some stores only got accessories.

Anon 11:21, read Renee's comment above.

My CVS had them this morning. There was an article in the paper today about some chemical used to make them being dangerous.

Anonymous said...

My cvs said that you can get these on wednesday if you show up at 5am. ny.

Anonymous said...

Anon 9:51- thank you so much! A friend of mine brought her kids to see Santa and Santa told them "Oh don't worry, we've got tons of zhu zhu pets at the North Pole" and she was shocked! She didn't know how she was going to pull that off and was furious at Santa. I called her right after seeing your comment and she was able to get two from Shopko!

I feel like CVS is totally doing some false advertising. They know these were sent to most stores last week, they sold out and so there will be little to sell at $9.99. What crap!

Anonymous said...

Anon 1:05 So glad it worked out for your friend! That could have been bad! Bad santa...hope no other kids will be disappointed!

Jodi said...

This is not false advertising every store does not have their own add and mine had them last week sold out, got more and I got the last one today, I DO NOT love my CVS like I do my WAGS(because of snobby cashiers) but they cannot know when something is going to sell out, not Psychics just your normal old CVS! :) Also just FYI my CVS in Florida said they would get more next week they THINK! (think being the big word right there)

Anonymous said...

This looks like a pretty stupid toy, I'm guessing I can pick up about a dozen of these at garage sales this summer for .10 cents. Crazy madness for a silly toy!

raydell said...

Please research this toy before buying. I saw a quick blurb on the news regarding a chemical this toy emits that could be dangerous.

Anonymous said...

Thanks so much for the heads up! I went to a CVS in Tallahassee Fl at 11am and they had 2 left but customers were limited to one per person. I though quickly and asked the college student behind me to buy the second one. SCORE!

Anonymous said...

Went to my store this morning and they said they have been sold out of the pets for 2 wks now. UGH! How can they put that in today's ad and then not have any for today?!

Anonymous said...

I have to tell you I didn't even know what these were when you posted them originally, but now that I've watched a video, I'm just short of obsessed. I didn't score today (went to 2 locations), but have resigned myself to wait until the holidays are over to get one for my daughter who will absolutely LOVE this. In time...

This toy looks cute but I'm not going to be disapointed if I have to wait to get it after Christmas. I'm sure there will be plenty of them then.

Those of you claiming false advertising with CVS isn't entirely true. These products were meant to come in early and be stored in the back until this week's sale. The stores were suppose to have received a memo stating that these were not to be put out on the shelf till this morning. For some reason some stores failed and apparently didn't read the memo and put these out on the shelf expecting to be able to get a new shipment to be put out today. That wasn't going to happen. My local stores insisted they would not be putting them out till this weeks sale and they stood by that. Sorry your store did not do the same.

The group saying these are unsafe is an extreme watch dog group.

This is the result of an ill though out law passed by congress that is putting many companies that make safe products for children, including small businesses and crafters out of business.

The law requires rigorous and very expensive component testing that many small business cannot afford.

Soon the only products you will be able to buy for children will be made by major manufacturers most of who have their products mass produced in other countries.

It especially threatens the handmade market. Several companies that make handmade items have already gone out of business.
Everyone should educate themselves on this subject and complain to your congress reps and other govt officials to change this law.

Please see http://amendthecpsia.com/
and http://www.handmadetoyalliance.org/

For casualties of this law see http://www.facebook.com/deborah.wuest?v=app_2347471856&ref=profile

This law affects every product marketed to children 12 and under, including toys, clothes, books, etc.
One example of the consequences of this law is that any books made before 1980 are now "unsafe", brass has been declared unsafe, which can includes, snaps, zippers, band instruments, etc.

Please look at the 2 websites I have provided to further educate yourselves!

Do not accept the status quo! Tell Congress and the
CPSC to restore "common sense" to our nation's product safety laws.

Btw, there is a site called Now In Stock and they post when Zhu Zhu pets are available. There are other buyers and sellers on this site so these do go really fast but just a heads up for anyone still looking.

Yes, they are popular but the people who already have given them to their kids are disappointed. Alot of them are falling apart within days. Can't really run on carpet. Would run on flat surfaces but would pick up dirt and hair, then it would clog up the wheels.

you can read the reviews at many places. a friend of mine said that its a disappointment.

Just a warning,

Anonymous said...

my girls love theirs and no disappointment here. I was not expecting much but was very suprised at how cute and neat they were. I would suggest these to anyone with little girls.

I was able to buy 2 zhu zhu pets and one at each acessories today in the los angeles area at cvs except for the funhouse. I went there at 8:30 am and there were suppose to open at 10 am but instead they opened at 7am. I bought the sunday newspaper on saturday and cvs had no advertising on zhu zhu pets and I also received the sunday newspaper with no cvs ad. Their ad on zhu zhu pets was only online. Toys r us are also selling the giant hamster city set for 129.99

The CVS in my area of N.CA has some sort of backpack or clothing things on sale, no pets. I do see the accessories from time to time in the stores, I've never seen a pet on the shelves and I shop a lot.

Regulators looking into safety of Zhu Zhu Pets
Consumer Product Safety Commission looks into safety of Zhu Zhu Pets

On 6:18 pm EST, Monday December 7, 2009
Buzz up! 0 Print
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Federal regulators say they are looking into the safety of the popular toy Zhu Zhu Pets after a consumer group raised concerns over the presence of a heavy metal on one model.

But the consumer group backtracked Monday, saying its testing method doesn't match federal standards.

The consumer review group GoodGuide said over the weekend that it found that one of the robotic hamsters, Mr. Squiggles, had the heavy metal antimony in its hair and nose. The toy's maker defended the product and released results from an independent lab.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Monday that it hopes to complete their review swiftly to determine if the toy exceeds the metals limit put in place under a new child safety law this year.
