FREE Priority Mail Boxes & a FREE Desk?!

Alright, so this is an interesting freebie that I actually would have never thought to post. Why? Well, it's common knowledge to me. You see, I use to sell items on eBay and got to know the Post office very well. One of the things that I so appreciated when it came time to ship items was Priority Mail! First, they offer flat rate boxes--this means, no matter how much the box weighs, the price will stay the same. Lets just say that I learned the art of stuffing boxes as full as possible and it is an art, trust me! Alright, so the other thing I LOVE about Priority mail brings me to the point of this post, the freebies...

Priority mail offers FREE boxes. Yes, FREE boxes! Now you do have to ship these boxes Priority, but it still makes the packaging part a heck of a lot easier! You can literally order as many Priority Mail boxes as your heart desires. They comes in all shapes and sizes, and will definitely make shipping holiday packages out that much easier! Just head on over to the USPS site to order your boxes and don't worry, there is NO shipping charge!

Oh and don't go overboard with the boxes you order... you may get tempted to make this FREE desk!:-)

NEW UPDATE: Please keep in mind I am totally JOKING and I have no idea who made that desk... the post was for laughable purposes only!

(Thanks, CouponingToDisney & Jess!)

LOL!! Thanks for the smile!

I think it is a offense (probably Federal) to make that desk. The boxes clearly state this is some manner.

You might want to consider to remove it.

There are weight limit on the boxes state and international side.

Not to be a downer, but I do think it's illegal to use the boxes for that purpose. I might suggest removing the post, or telling the person who made it to keep it on the down-low!

HI,
I work for the Post office, So let me answer some of the question. One, Yes Technically it is an "offense" to make that desk....but it's pretty creative you have to admit. Second, the weight limit is 70 pounds domestically. Third, if your order these boxes you need to remember that you can't rewrap them and send them out a cheaper service... that's a big no no. And fourth you are welcome to contact us at 1-800-ASK-USPS and we can help you place the order for free boxes as well as answer any questions that you might have. Thanks.

Thanks for the great idea, I could also use some of these boxes to wrap my gifts with.

btw, It's no federal offense to make something out of the boxes. They do however remain property of usps. So, i'd guess they could take your desk and use it in their office

lol. That's Ingenuity.

The beauty of these boxes and Priority Mail is that they will drop off the boxes for free, and you can schedule free pickup as well (you can print out your own barcode & pay for postage online). I ship Priority Mail for all my ebay stuff, and it's always been worth the money. Free boxes, not having to drag out to the PO with the full boxes, etc. really takes the fuss out of shipping.

I've been using the large flat-rate boxes for sending goods to the troops. When you don't have to worry about weight you can send as many cans of soup as you can fit! ;)

Who cares if it is an offense she didnt do it and I doubt she knows who did...

What did you sell on Ebay Colin? And why did you stop? Just curious.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know what the flat rate actually is?

megan said...

Can I just order a bunch for moving?

Can I get them at the Post Office?

Collin, can you make me that desk and ship it yo me please in a GIANT Priority Mail Box?

I think it is funny!!!

The flat rate boxes are great too, I use them all the time to ship. It is so easy. Buy postage on the usps website, print it on your computer, tape it to the box, schedule a pickup and done...off goes your package!

Thanks for the laugh!

Anon 7:02.. how do you know those boxes are new? They could be used and just being recycled to make a desk. I know my dad gets tons of that sized boxes sent to his office. He could have made a great dane dog house with all that come in in just a week. Would that be illegal?
thanks for sharing collin!!

LOL, it's also illegal to put the return address on an envelope that is the same as the mailing address but people do it. Oh well, LOL. This is so funny, good post Collin. ***Laughing so hard my husband had to come and see*** Then he tells me that he wants to see if he can make it. Oh, lord.

Remember back in the day when people could take a joke and they weren't so bitter that they had to automatically try and rain on everyone's parade... Those were good times. Good times.

I saw a story one time about a guy who furnished is whole apt. with fed ex boxes...it was pretty funny.

BTW...it's illegal to go over the speed limit. I will bet EVERY one of us did that at some point today. Lighten up people!!

Just a note - the Post office is really pushing the Flat Rate boxes these days, because, of course, they make money on them.
The regular Priority mail boxes (not flat-rate) are not as easily found in post offices these days but you can get them from the website.

If you are mailing something which is not going across the country and isn't too heavy (I don't know offhand what the cost-benefit weight cut-off is for these things) - it would be cheaper to use regular Priority mail boxes (ordered from the USPS website).

haha, love it Collin!!!

Mrs. Litz, I remember those days. They were fun weren't they? You could have fun with people and everyone would laugh and laugh. Not anymore.

The disney Rewards codes can be found on this site: community.abcfamily.go.com/25-days-christmas
(towards the bottom, next to the GForce info usually)

There's a new one every day!

The last time I shipped with a priority box, it was about $10 (just a bit under). I really don't think anyone in their right mind would want to pack and move with the boxes - they don't get very big. Maybe if you wanted to pack each pair of shoes, pants, box of cereal in a box by its self........

Anonymous said...

I got some free a while back and the boxes would be nice to move smaller breakable stuff or things to put in your card open your mind small boxes are good for moving too my opinion of course :)

Anonymous said...

The boxes technically aren't free, (the cost is included in the postage obviously), so you might as well use them instead of buying your own and sending priority.

anon at 7:02 - pull the stick out and enjoy the picture for what it is - a funny picture.

I was told by the post office that 2 pounds was the breaking point. So less then 2 pounds, it's cheaper to send it in your own box, priority mail.

Yes, it's a creative idea if it were made from grocery boxes or something else obviously discarded. If a lot more start ordering these boxes and not using them for their intended purpose then the post office will stop delivering them and a lot of people will be inconvenienced.
To Flipflop....I NEVER speed. I follow rules and limits and live a much better, peaceful life.

It is so funny that you actually have to state that you were joking as an update. People need lighten up! I can't wait to see how many comments this post gets!

so funny my husband used one of those flat rate boxes to ship back 5 modems to a cable company that they were missing from, I could honestly not pick the box up but they shipped no problem, got to love it.

Heck with the desk. I'm gonna put an addition on my house!!!

And then get inside and ship myself on vacation!

Now I know what to do with all my left over priority boxes!!! lolol

I accidentally misunderstood how many I was getting when ordering...I thought 20 meant 20 boxes not 20 bundles of 25....now I have 3,500 coming!!! I feel like I'm going to get into trouble.....:( My husband laughed at me ...but I seriously feel bad!

Anonymous said...

20 bundles of 25 each is 500 not 3,500 :) So it's not THAT bad!!! I did that before with my boxes and I ended up using them to pack stuff away and the rest are still flat in my closet.

Some guy furnished his entire apartment with priority mail boxes..a few years ago he was on a morning show for it!

Unknown said...

That would have been alright but I got 7 different types.....YIKES!!!! My mom thinks they'll have a truck deliver....oh my goodness....I AM EMBARRASSED!!!

Anonymous said...

You can also get FREE packing tape from the post office. You have to ask for it and it can only be used for priority mail.

Anonymous said...

h_engleman - I ended up ordering teh wrong size one time - All you need to do is take the extras to the post office. They were actually thankful as THEY have a hard time getting some of the boxes!

I can't believe what people find offense....I think the picture was hysterical and an obvious joke. Thanks Collin for all your hard work and helping each and everyone of us save money. I truly appreciate it :)

I just get really embarrassed about things....I think I'd rather give them to family(since all of them know what I did)....and see if they need them . I have lots of family so I think that'll work out great! THANKS SO MUCH!!!

Anonymous said...

I have to ask -- why is mailing an envelope with the same address & return address illegal? (Really? . . . illegal? not just frowned upon?) I do it all the time when I include a postage paid envelope to have documents sent back to me.

Oh well, at least now when I do it I'll get that special little thrill running up and down my spine knowing I'm being so naughty! Bring out the handcuffs, boys!

THAT IS HILARIOUS. I KNOW IT IS WRONG BUT IT STILL MADE ME SMILE.
