Borders: FREE Tote Bag (Possibly a $10 Value)!

According to Isra from Store Scenarios, you can snag a FREE tote bag from Borders! Through today ONLY Borders has some great coupons available. One of them is $10 off 1 Tote bag. Well, supposedly if you look around by the gift bags and check behind the more expensive bags, you may be able to find totes priced at just $8.99. If you use the $10 coupon you'll get a FREE tote. Isra also said that there are other totes priced between $12.99-$14.99... still a pretty sweet deal with the coupon!

Let us know if you're able to snag a FREE tote. Also, remember that this coupon is only valid through today!

Is $8.99 the original price or the sale price? The coupon says it may not be combined with sale pricing.

CM,
From what she emailed me, it sounds like these are just the regular prices of some of their totes. She did not mention they were on sale.

Wish I could be more help!

Thanks Collin, will check it out. My husband keeps asking how many more free totes I need, but you can never have too many, right?

I know what you mean - I need another tote like a hole in the head....but I can't pass up a great deal!! Thanks! I'll try to pop over there today!

I did this deal when the coupon came out a few days ago. The free bags are hard to find, and for the big bags anything less than about $12.99 is a sale price. However, there are VERY CUTE kid's totes at some stores for $9.99. I found mine at Border's Express in Waterford, CT.

I was just in there yesterday and seen this really cute small vinal tote with stripes for 9.99 going back to see if it works!

I heard from someone important at Kroger that the government is trying to mandate that consumers provide their own bags when they shop. And that eventually all the stores will no longer have the plastic bags. Although this would be a pain, I think it would be a great change. So why not stock up on the free totes while you can :)

Just got back from Borders and was able to snag a $8.99 bag for free! Yipee!
At first they didn't really want to do it, saying that the under $10 bags weren't included. I told them that I know someone else who got it and nothing specific was on the coupon so they did it.

Thanks for posting this on your site!

I was at Border's yesterday. I thought the <$10 totes were too small for my use, so I just bought a $14.99 one. I also got the $10 off a booklight ($14.99), $2 of a magazine ($4.99), and a free javakula! Savings of 66%!

I tried to purchase the $8.99 bag and they would not honor the coupon. They said only special marked "Tote" bags for 12.99 could be bought. bummer

Just returned from Borders on 7th Avenue in Manhattan where I actually found a $10 tote bag... problem was when they pointed out that the coupon could not be used on "Bargain" merchandise... oh well that bag was pretty ugly!

I got an ADORABLE owl bag- (almost more of a make-up looking one) for $12.49. The lady didn't think it would work but the coupon went right through. Thanks so much for the heads up! Here is a pic if you want to see what I got: http://thethriftynifty.blogspot.com/2009/06/freecheap-tote-bags-at-borders.html

I just got back from Borders. The cashier tried to use the coupon with a bag for $8.99, but the computer wouldn't take it so she said she couldn't accept it with that bag. They also will not allow you to use the coupon on clearance merch. I probably could have gotten the 8.99 back for free since the coupon has no written exclusions, but I was on my lunch and didn't feel like asking for the manager.

I just went to Borders. I picked up a tote that was marked $9.99, but ended up paying $4.99 after the $10 off because the coupon states that it is $10 off the "list" price, not the sale price.(It didn't look like it was a sale price to me. It just looked like the normal price.) I still bought it. I also got a card game from the book series "39 Clues" for $.99 after the $5 off. Thanks for the heads up.

Just got the cutest little canvas bag for free! Just the right size for a diaper, wipes, and a snack. It was marked 9.99 I checked out and paid nothing. The cashier didn't say a word to me about it, it was perfect. Left the store with a tote, coffee, and muffin all for 2.12....not bad.

Had a bad experience with this today. Tried using my coupon on a regularly-pricd $8.99 tote and it was a no-go. I will actually be calling corporate - something I usually don't do - because I feel the store did not honor the offer they put out. There were no exclusions on the coupon stating the tote had to be a certain price. Bad business, guys. I had also written about this deal on my blog and recently added an update.

I went today in Southern CA, my stores cheapest tote was 14.99, but I did get some cheap children's books as the cashier let me use the $2 coupon for each regularly priced children's book.

The bag I picked out was $8.99. I also picked out a magazine because I knew I would have an overage. When I went up to the cashier she said you could only use the coupon on certain bags. I told her the coupons stated ANY tote and there were no signs by the totes. They called the manager up and he said they were really slammed and he didn't have time to deal with the problem. I'm thinking of call corporate too.

I went to Borders and found a $10 bag, but I got told that it would not work. I just sent a unhappy-gram to their customer service department with my story, lets see if I get a response -

I was in your store tonight to use the great coupons you had listed on your website. Another customer and I asked which totes were included in the deal since the coupon does not clearly state what is included, and she showed a number of racks that according to her were included. When I took my bag to the register, the guy told me that the bag was not a "tote". Then another clerk came by and said we could not use the coupon because it was on sale for $10. I am really upset because 3 people in your store gave three different stories, and the last two did not even offer solutions of what bags I could buy, but rather treated me like I was trying to cheat the system. Either way, if I use a coupon for $10, your company is discounting by that amount, it really does not matter which tote bag I buy. I am not worried about not getting the bag, but I am really dissapointed in the service I recived at your store.

I requested a response and gave my contact info...

Hmm. I actually had a good experience. I found a fold-up tote bag (the kind that stuff into their own carrying bag) for 5.99. When I took it up to the counter, I asked if it counted as a tote bag. The woman working said it worked for her and see rung it up -- no charge! Thanks for the coupon and tip!

Well, thank you for telling us about this deal, as some of us were able to get a free bag....I got the nicest bag (same type as pictured, but with a cute deisign all over). The cashier had to call the manager and they worked out a way to just give me the bag for free even tought it was only $8.99. She must have lowered the price of the coupon as I suggested to her. Thanks so much! One Christmas present down!

Just wanted to follow up on my last comment. I rec'd a call from the store manager after complaining to corporate. He apologized and agreed I should've left with the free bag. He said Corporate realizes now that they goofed in the wording of their coupon and will be more careful in the future. I'm getting a $10 gift card, and I got an apology, so I'm happy.

I just get irked when store employees try to tack on exclusions to coupons that aren't there. This happened with the Quizno's "free sub" coupon a few months back. Stuff like this really makes my leary of attempting to redeem coupons there in the future.
