We're Moving!

As some of you may already know, my hubby is in the Marines. We live on a huge military base (Camp Lejeune) in North Carolina. They are in the process of building all new base housing and the great news is that our brand new house is finished! YAY!

I'm super exited because we've been living in a house that is literally falling apart... I know, I know... I'm not trying to complain, but to say the least it's pretty bad! Our new house just feels so clean and nice! I can't wait to start moving in.

One of the best perks about being in the military is that were able to have movers (that the military pays for) come in our home, box up all our items and move us! I'm going to feel a little spoiled tomorrow when I'm outside with my kids enjoying the weather... knowing there will be movers inside boxing up my all my stuff!

This is the planned schedule:

Monday:
Get everything boxed and packed. I should still be able to access the Internet, but I will not be able to post nearly as much as I normally do!:(

Tuesday:
Moving all our items into our new home! YAY! It will be very chaotic... especially dealing with the kiddos, the movers, where I want my furniture, boxes to go and so on! I have a special guest post planned, but will not be able to post anything else.

Wednesday:
Finally moved in (hopefully)! I will be unpacking most of the day. I should have the Internet back up in the afternoon, but no guarantees. However, I do have another guest post planned!

Thursday:
I'm hoping to be back in full swing!

Thanks so much for your patience during this time!
I also want to add that I really am so lucky to have the most incredible readers! You all bring a huge smile to my face everyday! I've received some of the nicest comments and emails, filled with such encouraging words. When your in the military it becomes pretty easy to feel all alone and isolated. I definitely dealt with the "poor me" syndrome... not anymore, though! Now I feel like I have so many friends from all over the United States. It really is pretty amazing!

Oh my goodness! Based on what you wrote, I have a pretty good idea where you live and where you are moving to. I also live on Camp Lejeune, just in a renovated house. (Would have loved to get one of the new ones) My friend just moved 2 weeks ago.

Good luck with the move!
(if you need help, I'm close :) )

YEAH! Congrats on the new housing. I didn't realize that your hubby was military. Please thank him on behalf of our family, and thanks to you too. Without spouses like you, they couldn't do what they do. I'm glad that your family will be enjoying your new home!

Yah for your new house! I've loved reading your blog, my sister in Utah told me to check you out, and I come here every day! I'm in Idaho, by the way.

I have heard that you can send out expired coupons to military families, but haven't done much research to find out who can use them and all that jazz. Can you use expired coupons, or do you know who I can send them to? I hate to throw away the coupons!

Good luck with the move, and I hope to have a humongo shopping trip to Kmart like yours was (dang!!)

Good luck with the move and congrats on your new house! They are beautiful!!

We ended up in the old yucky stuff (I sooo know what you mean by them falling apart...it was horrible!) and wouldn't you know RIGHT before we were about to move we got a letter saying we got a new house. We had to turn it down, I was so sad, haha.

Free housing is one of the best military benefits :) I was 13 years active duty Air Force and travelled alot.

It's a small world ... my parents (both of whom are gone now) lived right down the road from you in Pollocksville. I've visited Jacksonville many times! Once with my cousin, a retired Marine helicopter pilot, to visit his good friend -- a general there.

Moving as one of the most stressful events in your life so you want to take care when choosing a moving and storage company to be sure you get the one that best suits your needs. Choosing the right company that can help with what you need will take a lot of the load off your shoulders so here's some things to look for when researching moving and storage companies.

1. Free Estimates - if you are hiring the company to move your household, make sure they will come to your home and give you a free estimate. When they do, be sure you show them everything as large items like pianos and pool tables can have a big effect on the moving bill.

2. Insurance - make sure they have a good insurance policy in case your items get lost or damaged during transit. If you are storing items for any length of time, be sure you find out about the insurance while in storage.

3. Packing - some moving and storage companies will pack the items for you so if you want this service, be sure to find out up front if your company provides it. This, of course, will be at an added cost.

4. Transport - be sure you get the particulars on exactly what the moving company will do. It may seem obvious to you that they will remove it from your old house and bring it to your new house but you want to get specific to make sure you're both on the same page.

5. Placement - find out in detail where your items will be put when you get to the new house. You should have all your boxes marked as to the room you want them in and be sure that the movers instructions are to place them in those rooms as well as the furniture that goes in each particular room.

6. Protecting your furniture - be sure the movers will take every effort to protect your furniture from scratches and dings including using protective coverings while in transit.

7. Storage - there are basically two types of storage, self storage and containerized storage. If you are requiring storage, you need to decide which type you want and then be sure that your moving and storage company provides it.
