Update on My Little Piper Joe!

Well, for any of you that may be curious, here's the update on my daughter:

We took her back this evening and once again explained the situation to the doctor. At first she said we should wait a little longer for the Zyrtec to kick in, but after a little pleading she decided to go ahead and do a chest x-ray.

I'm so glad she ended up doing this because Piper does have walking pneumonia and bronchitis! If you're not familiar with walking pneumonia, it's similar to regular pneumonia, but you're more likely to be able to move around during the day... which is exactly what she was doing.

The doctor prescribed us with Zithromax. She took her first dose tonight and I'm happy to report she's already asleep! Hopefully she'll be able to sleep comfortably throughout the night.

I also wanted to thank you all for the kind words and great advice! Lots of you had mentioned putting Vicks on her feet. Well, guess what she has on her little feet right now?:) Hey, that may be doing the trick more then the Zithromax!

Thanks again and here's to a good night sleep!

Collin,
I so glad Piper is getting some sleep...now why don't you forget about posting for tonight and follow suit...I know you need it. To the whole family...rest well, and hopefully the medicine will make Piper better soon.

I have a 1yr who has been fighting the same thing!!! I am a pediatric ER nurse and finally convinced the dr's there was more going on than allergies!!! We are on antibiotics and a steroid!!

That is none thing I had to learn the hard way please everyone step up for what you know to be true in your heart about your children ...even against a doctor

I am SO GLAD that you persisted with getting a more thorough examination from your pediatrician! Thank God Piper is on her way now! It is so amazing how bronchitis and pneumonia can creep up from sinus related problems; hopefully with the Zyrtec, Piper won't have this problem again. Good luck! :)

We are glad that she will be on the mend soon ~ She is a very lucky girl that has a great mom to advocate for her!

Yes, Collin, way to go on being persistent!! That is what my daughter was prescribed (it is the same thing as ZPac for us) and she was better within 2-3 days! She had even been running 103+ temp for a week, and that went away! I took my Zpac and was better in a day, and full recovery in about 3! Good luck and thanks for keeping us up-to-date!

I am so happy to hear the good news!
Childhood illnesses are usually much less mysterious than some doctors would lead us to believe. Thanks for the update.

Poor baby! We went through the same thing back in February or March. The zith really does help...my daughter started acting like herself again about 3 days in. Glad she's getting some rest. It's so sad when your kids are sick like that.

Maybe a new pediatrician is in order.

I'm glad to hear she's finally diagnosed correctly... I hope the chest x-ray wasn't too tramatic for her. Did they have to hold her down with the clear plastic holders or did she do okay on her own?

I'm glad you stood your ground - doctors do their best but they don't know your child the way you do. Hope you all can rest now!

I'm glad you took her back! If you are going to the Naval Hospital then you should switch PCM's to a doctor in town. You can have Prime and still have a doctor in town with no costs. I've had so many problems with Navy medicine. They wanted to send my son home once and I insisted that something was wrong. THe doctor was a jerk about it, but ordered an xray, and I was right, his arm was broken in two places. I'm not sure what your situation is, but a lot of people don't know you can have a PCM in town with Tricare Prime.
Hope Piper feels better soon!

Oh my gosh! Good thing you took her to the doctor, then! Poor baby! I know it's heartbreaking when our little one's are sick :(
If there is anything I can do for you (research....sending you the latest deals...etc.), just let me know.

So glad to hear your daughter is doing better. From someone whose little one dealt with lots of bronchial and chest junk from 2 to 3 years old, I know it is NO fun! Good for you for trusting your mommy instinct!

Collin,

That's so good to hear that she's sleeping and I'm sure will feel much better in the morning. I echo what everyone else is saying about being persistant and knowing something more was going on and insisting the Dr's look harder, way to go.

Oh good!!! So glad to hear she's on the mend! Doctors drive me crazy - I'm glad you insisted becauses it sounded so much like pneumonia. She'll feel better soon, but don't be discouraged if it takes a few days. One of my girls took a full 4 days on antibiotics before she really started perking up. And make sure she eats LOTS of yogurt, it helps so much when you're on antibiotics.

I'm so glad that your little cutie is feeling better! Thank goodness for antibiotics! :) Like I mentioned before, I get an infection like that EVERY spring as a consequence of allergies - so keep in mind that it could become a regular thing for her if she has an allergy that leads up to an infection. At least you'll know what symptoms to look for!

So glad you were persistent about it and found out what was wrong! Sometimes you just have to trust your parent gut.

Have a wonderful long weekend! Hope you got some sleep last night :)

We went through the same thing with our 25 year old daughter when she was 2. It is scary to feel like you can't help when a child just seems to be suffering so much. She was never so sick again. So sorry you are having to go through it-I remember how little sleep we got too!

That's wonderful that she is feeling better! My oldest daughter had walking pneumonia several years ago and took Zithromax also but after taking her first dose she IMMEDIATELY had every single allergic reaction know to man! Hives started popping out everywhere while she was hnched over the tiolet throwing up, dizzy and still nauseous her heart was racing then the cold sweat kicked in. This all happened within the first 5 minutes!!!Whew, that was something I never wish for any parent to go through!
