wont they take the travel size price off for this though? Not the full price ( thats what our stores do)
This is where I think it starts to get a bit ethically wrong. I think if you are using a BoGoF, then you should do it for the same size. I think this is where mfrs will start really getting fed up with the cpn abuse and may start to change some policies. So I would not advise trying to buy a travel size and get a full size free. It is merely my opinion, but I think it is wrong and it is stuff like this that gives couponers a bad rep.
My Target has the travel size shampoo for 47 cents and the conditioner for 67 cents. The full size voluminizing hair spray (regular price $2.94.) comes with a travel size hair spray $1.14 for a full size and 3 travels sizes is not a bad deal at all.
Chrissy - the coupon is for a free styler with shampoo or conditioner purchase, so it's the styler price that will be taken off.
As far as the ethics, the companies are very well aware of products they manufacture in travel and regular sizes. There are some Q's that state "exluding trial sizes" and some that do not. IMHO, it's not an issue to use the trial size if they don't specify. Everyone needs to do whatever they are comfortable with.
I don't understand how this in unethical! She's following exactly what the coupon says...
If CVS has the herbal essence in travel sizes you could use this to get closer to the $25 for the transformer movie deal! Haven't done the math yet to see how close it will get you to $25.00
I'm excited about it. I feel like if the company has a problem with it, they should write, "excluding travel size" on there.
Although my cashier at Target refused to sell me the travel size Dove deodorant the other day with my coupon because "it wasn't what the picture was". whatever.
wouldn't this probably take off the price of the travel size? Even if it didn't automatically, i'd think that the cashier would manually do that.
ok...I see now. It gives the styler for free :)
At Target I also found Herbal Essance travel size on clearance for .68 cents for the shampoo and condition. This makes it even a little better deal than the .99 cents if you can find some!
The styler product will be taken off because that is what the BOGO is stated as.. not the shampoo or conditioner as the free item. So for .68 you can get a full size styling product and travel size shampoo or conditioner!
Just do deals you personally are comfortable with :-)
I won't be doing this one.
Heads up Redplum now has a $5/$25 IP that is good until 13/31/10...
I am big on ethics and I agree with anony 11:00am: on trying to stick to ethics with coupons because I do see many people have issues with coupons - and they seem to have no idea why stores are getting fed up with couponers. And, then they blame the store, not those who take advantage of couponing.
Like when people use big value coupons to buy something: ie - $10 off a $20 product and they buy lets say 3 and pay $30, save $30. Then, they come right back and return those items to get the full $60 back. I saw a post from someone who use d to work at target say she was sick of seeing that and it was total abuse. I agree, that is totally wrong!
I also think if your total goes into a neg, you should buy soemthing to fill it and pay the tax, it is a policy right on the coupons and it does say that you the couponer is responsibile for tax. But, I even saw Collin on her follow me MOnday go neg before tax and then pay $2 and something cents. ANd, what got me was how she was donting everything to show good cause, so why not jus throwin an extra doggey treat for a buck and pay all the tax and show good cause to the manufacture who made it possible to donate stuff they paid for becuase you used coupons.
But, hey - with that said:
If the stores allow their registers to go below and then charge tax, and they do not post any policy at the registers telling people otherwise, then they are allowing it and like Kandice said "Everyone needs to do whatever they are comfortable with." So, I may throw in the extra doggy treat to feel better about myself and to me it's liek my way of saying thank you for these savings - I saved so much, what it is to me to pay that buck!
And, as far as the trial size, No matter what the bogo coupon pays the full price item - wether you buy 2 full price items or one, and the reason the manufactuers allow this at times I feel is due to getting people hooked on their prodcut and buying it for life!
Think of all the items you give to friends that you bought with coupons, or donate liek Collin showed us, they may love the product and become hooked. So, it is a small price to pay for word of mouth advertising or to get people to try their product who may otherwise not have.
Hope that helps wiegh the balance of that - and so I think there is nothing wrong with this deal. These coupon deals also help boost sales for stores who may otherwise be ran out of buisness by companies like walmart. So, that may be why they allow it and until the manuf. make them stop allowing such things:
like anony: 11:09 said - they didn't state otherwise, the stores may welcoem the sale.
lol - long but felt that should be cleared up as I completely understand feeling like my ethics are being robbed sometimes when I coupon shop at times. But, many of these people are right, just follow the rules on the coupons and do your best to be fair to others and you shouldn't feel bad.
I actually did come on this board for a question:
I recieved my $20 rake in the savings rebate coupon and was wondering if you can use this and still qualify for rebates?
I thought about doing that one about the eye cream and pantne and you get the $20 cash rebate and qualify for the pink cookware set. You pay $22.00 or something like that, but if I used the $20 rake in rebate, i'd only pay $2 and change. Would this work or would I not be eligible because I used the rebate coupon to pay? Thanks
I also agree that you should NOT used A BOGO coupon to buy a travel size and get the full size free.
Either buy a travel and get a travel free
OR
buy a full size and get a full size free.
Feel free to use one more Q as you are technically buying 2 items.
Just don't try to "pull one over" by buying a travel and then getting the full size for free. That is where I think it gets ethically wrong.
{{Feel free to use one more Q as you are technically buying 2 items.

If you are couponing the free item, how is that any "more ethical" than purchasing a travel item that is not exluded on the coupon?
Ethics Schmm-ethics... People. No one really has a right to say much about who should or should not.. If the Manuf. put out the coupon without the exclusion to Trail Size, and the store allows it.. Then why turn down the deal.. Its like the chocolates yesterday.. what that wrong too? Just do what you feel ok with and let others do what they feel ok with..
Hi I just did this deal at my riteaid and i added two olay body lotions on sale 2 for $9 I used the $3 off one lotion and BOGO olay lotion from the november MarieClaire and ended up paying $1.94 for both after tax!
I went to Rite Aid today planning on using my wellness coupon for $5 off of $25. Well after all my coupons my total was $10 and they still hadn't used my wellness coupon - the cashier (and manager) proceeded to tell me you can only use these coupons when your total after coupons is $25. Has this happened to anyone else? I thought you could use it....
I think this is where the gray area of coupon ethics come into play. Yes, it's a dynamite deal. However, you know the manuf. did not intend for the coupon to be used this way (and if you think so, you've never owned a business in a recession). If a lot of people use the coupon this way, enjoy it now b/c more than likely the next time or two this coupon is available, it will have the fine print excluding trial sizes.
Denise you have to hand over the Rite Aid coupon first before all of your other coupons, then you can use it.
Denise,
Here is a suggestion: Hand the cashier your coupons one at a time, with the $5.00/$25.00 coupon first...when that is taken off, hand her the next one, etc. I've gotten into the habit of doing this, even at supermarkets, just to ensure they don't miss any of my coupons...this also means less trips to customer service if they do miss a coupon or two.
You can also take that coupon and your receipt back to the store (which I have done before) and tell the cashier you would like that coupon applied to that receipt. They have a "post coupon" key on their registers. The manager at my RA said they will take coupons up to a month after a purchase.
Actually, this manufacturer normally excludes travel size - they have for years, but every now and then they don't exclude travel size. They know people will love it and keep buying it.
Remember, this is the same company that has a current giveaway on Facebook for 75,000 full size FREE bottles! There are still 12,000 available if anyone missed out.

I don't think will take off the large size item price. Instead they'd take off the 99 cent price.
However, why not use these at CVS for the $25 deal to get the Transformers movie? First I bought the Glade reed for $6.99 and used a $3.50 coupon. I got back $6.99 in ECB. Then because my local CVS did not limit my number of Herbal Essence products so I was able to get 8 Herbal Esscence items (I got shampoo, conditioner, and stylers), used 4 B1G1 free coupons. I also bought one box of Puff's for $1 to meet the $25. I also used a 30 cent off Puff's coupon that I had (don't even know where I got it....LOL). Then I used a $3 off Transformers coupon from Papa John's (I went in and asked if I could have one, they said sure and gave me a dozen which I handed out! LOL) I also used the $5 off $25 coupon. Plus I used the $6.99 ECB and paid $7.70! I think that's pretty decent! I'm holding on to my receipt and proof's of purchase incase there is some sort of rebate attached to the movie like there was with Snow White!
I did have an idea after I left the store though. I wonder if CVS price matches? If they do, then bring in the Target ad where the movie is $15, if they did, you'd save another $5 off the amount. If I had thought of that and if they did price match, my cost would have been $2.20 plus tax! ROFL
Thanks for all you do!
I was able to use the coupon at Wal-Mart.
Yeesh.
There's a lot of sympathy for P&G out there. If you think they "accidentally" published a coupon that will cost them a lot of money, THINK AGAIN.
They want brand loyalty. They'll sell their soul to get it, too, because without it they'll be dead.
I bet you they intentionally did it so it didn't exclude trial size. I've never seen a P&G coupon that DIDN'T either exclude trial size or specify a lower limit size. Anybody else?!
This deal works at Meijer, too.
I think some of you are a little naive as to how companies work. These companies pay mega bucks to employee people in their marketing departments 6 figure salaries, and if you think, for one minute, that they aren't aware that people may use the coupons on trial size items, then you're crazy. Every time they prepare a coupon for publication it is going through a bunck of checks and balances. People are not being "sneaky" when they use a coupon on a trial item, a company is expecting that some people will do this, and must not be too bothered by it...or they would CHANGE THE WORDING ON THE COUPON!!! Geeesh!!!
i purchased the trial size Herbal shampoo at Target for .97 cents and the styler for $2.99. I got the coupon nazi who would not take the coupon. She called over someone, maybe manager, and after a little discussion she gave it to me. Just like was posted earlier, these companies are well aware if their product comes in trial size, if they wanted to exclude them it should be on the coupon!
at my target in PHX the travel shampoo was .67 and the travel conditioner was .48 (so of course i got the conditioner)no prob. with the cashier...I also bought 5 glade candle tins and 5 refills. The Apple Cinnamon refills, not with the "holiday Scents" are also apart of this Gift Card deal. I scanned it at a price checker to make sure. OOP 5.48+tax...got back 10$ GC
I just went to CVS and it works there too! Plus the stylers are included towards the $25 Transformer discount! Totally agree that you should be able to do this deal because if they wanted the travel size not to be included they would have put it on the coupon as they do with pretty much every coupon they print!
I tried to get this deal at my wal-mart and the cashier didn't even try to scan the coupon. She said she would only deduct the .97 item. I tried to explain the coupon to her, but she was not listening. Once again why i like target better than wal-mart.
Personally, I don't understand the need for all these negative opinions. If you don't want to use the coupon, don't but please don't bash Colin. She does a lot for all of us by saving us tons of money and if you feel something is "unethical," let those be your ethics and don't judge others for doing what they think is ok. There are many ethics in this country, let's not waste too much stress on something so minimal. Happy Day!
It worked for me at a Target in Mesa, AZ. The cashier had to manually enter in the price of the styler product, which was 2.99.
The travel size products at this target were still .97, not marked down at all. I still think .97 for a travel size product and one full size product is pretty dang good!
Good luck to everyone else!
And I agree with the anonymous that said WalMart wouldn't use this coupon for you...Target is MUCH better! All the way around!☺
Oh yeah, and it might help to have a cart load of other stuff you're buying so that they don't have so much time to waste on being angry that you are only buying a travel size item and getting a free full-sized item.
ok didn't read all the posts but got about half way down and saw that alot of people were very upset nd made this an ethical thing... to those people I contacted PG and they said that deal is fine. If they didn't want it to be used on trial sized produtcts they would state that in the coupon. No on is trying to pull the wool over P&G's eyes with this deal. Stores get the money from the manf. its not like you are cheating the store. I used to work at publix and process coupons- its not that big of a deal... really not thaat many people take the time to use them. and manf. are happy to let the people who do enjoy thier product at a lower price. CALM DOWN PEOPLE WE ARE NOT STEALING.... Thanks Collin for having this site and being AWESOME!!! you go girl!
If you are not stealing than what is it called? You know that it is wrong, otherwise you wouldn't be posting long stories on why it is right. This is why people look down on us- GREED. Not saving money just pure GREED. I buy plenty of items, use the coupons they way they are ment, and donate to charities. I don't rob Peter to pay Paul!
lol
I agree LOL... I think the people on their high horse are just mad thay they might not have this uber cool coupon. I myself purchased some from ebay.
Wow, coupons can bring the best and worst of people! My goodness! LOL!
anon 8:16 -
You mean we aren't tricking P&G's team of marketing MBA's and lawyers?! Dang it. I though we were smarter than them!!!! LOL
OK, great coupon. I'm making a gift basket for a teenager and these are going to be awesome. :)
For once a coupon actually worked well at Meijer. hahaha Ironic that it's this one.
Deal not as posted. I bought 2 regular size and 2 trial size. They would only give you the trial
size free, or as I did take the reg size @ $4.49, B1G1F and the trial size @ $0.99, B1G1F for a savings of $ 5.48.
They refused to make this deal for me. I did it at Harris Teeter though.
I just got a letter in the mail saying that Rite Aid is no longer a participating store for the kitchen gift set. Are other people having this same problem? I just called and they said that Rite Aid was participating in the beginning, but is no longer participating. It seems fishy, I personally think that they ran out of the gift set and need to eliminate some of the people they have to send out to.
