This is great! I wonder if the lights have to work, I have a couple of strings of lights that I can't get to work. That would be great if I could get them traded in and get some LED lights cheap!! Can't wait to try this!
Nicole - On Home Depot's website they say "Recycle your used or broken incandescent..." so you should be good trading in your broken ones. Apparently they are going to recycle the components so the broken ones are still worth something. :)
Just went to Home Depot. Go to the service desk to trade in your string of lights (up to 5 at a time per offer). I brought in 3 and they didn't even check to see if they worked...just threw them in a bin and handed over the $3 off coupons. I was able to find the specially priced $5.97 lights. What a great deal!

Went in today and exchanged all of our lights. You'll get one coupon no matter how many lights you bring in and you'll be able to use it for up to 5 sets of new lights. Register automatically deducts $3 for each set - cashier scans it once. I think you can use the coupon for whatever type of LED lights you want. The $5.97 sets are white or multi colored 50 light sets (indoor lights). What a nice offer from Home Depot! Thanks for the info on this deal!!! We wanted to "upgrade"...
