Thanks for asking us about using coupons at Target. Coupons are a great way to save even more when shopping with us, and it's easy to use them at our stores. Because of the variety of coupons available to our guests, we do have some guidelines for how coupons can be redeemed at Target.
When accepting coupons, we use the following guidelines:
- We accept two kinds of coupons: Target-issued and manufacturer-issued.
- We'll accept one Target coupon and one manufacturer coupon for the same item, unless either coupon prohibits it.
- We can't give cash back if the face value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of the item; in this case, we're able to adjust the value of the coupon to equal the price of the item.
- We can't accept coupons from other retailers, or coupons for products not carried in our stores.
- All valid coupons should be presented to the cashier while you're checking out.
For questions about using a specific coupon, we encourage you to stop by Guest Service and ask to speak with the Guest Service Team Leader. They'll do their best to help while you're in the store. If you still have questions after speaking with them, please call our Guest Relations team at (800) 440-0680. Either way, we're here to help!
We appreciate the opportunity to share this information with you.
Sincerely,
James

Thank you SO much Collin for the "Target coupon policy". It was my 2nd time at Target finding a "deal" and I had read about the problems people encounter so I brought the policy with me...I'm so glad I did. I bought about 6 trial size items and used the coupons...so they were all FREE! However, when I got up to the cashier she was telling me that because the items was only .99 and the coupon was 1.25 that she couldn't take it and that I couldn't purchase "trial/small" items and use the coupons. She was quite rude. I pulled the policy right and and asked to speak to the manager...she said it was "Okay"...SMILE...SMILE...SMILE.
Thanks again for all your hard work. I can't believe how much I'm saving!!!
How can I email their corporate office?
Anon,
Copy and paste this link below. It has all the target contact numbers and email info:

I had an experience with a target employee too. She said I couldnt use a coupon the said "reedeamable at publix" on it... yet clearly across the top was MANUFACTURER COUPON... and was quite rude
I just came back from Target. I wanted to get in on the Smart Ones deal. I was trying to use 10 Target coupons for $1 off a smart ones frozen meal, the cashier told me I could only use one of the target coupons because it's a new target coupon policy. Does anyone know if this is true? is any one else having the same Problem?
I always wondered about that, as it states right on the target coupons "Limit one offer per transaction" but I see posts all the time about using a bunch in one transaction...hm...
I was able to use 10 $1 Target coupons with no problem. I think you should ask for a team leader then.
I went to target today and tried to purchase the morningstar , poptarts for the kellogs fuel for school rebate armed with both target and manufacturer coupons. The cashier refused to stack the coupons first , they would take only one type either the target Q or manufac Q.Then when i said that as per their corporate policy stacking was allowed, she grumbled a bit , and spoke with her supervisor. The supervisor came back and said stacking is ok but wont accept ones printed from a computer/website. Bottomline after wasting time trying to make her understand I refused to buy the things and came back.
My point is, Is there a new policy that they will only accept Manufac Q from newspaper inserts/magazines and not the printed ones?
No I had the same problem with the same attitude, email corporate, call corporate, report the store name and associate name if you can remember (She made me so mad I could spell her name). They have coupons on their website they cannot refuse coupons. They emailed me apologies and I told them I would like something for my trouble as I wasted time and gas and left empty handed and they sent me 2 $3.00 off coupons. I still haven't gone back yet though, out of my way and such a hassle.
I tried to buy the 99 cent travel size and use the 1$ off coupons, cashier got the manager who said "you can't" I had printed your blog with the Target Coupon Policy. She said "that's a blog". I told her to take them off and I will print it out from their website.
I just wanted to report that I went to Target today....full of coupons (doubled up on some products) armed with my corporate policy and ready to defend my coupon overload! LOL However, the cashier I had was great and said to me he just needed to check to make sure I didn't have more than 3 coupons per item (can you have 3 coupons? or did he mean no more than 3?) Anyhow he was awesome! And I like to think it was because of others like us who have gone before and been prepared to deal with the rudeness.
I noticed today at Target on the endcaps by the registers it now says they will take one manufacturer coupon and one target coupon per item! Yay now you can just point to that rather than argue with the cashier. I have a great cashier though that is super nice. I wonder if all targets will have this on their endcaps? Hopefully!
I just went to Target with just Target coupons and got:
9 individual bowls of Lucky Charms and 4 mozerella cheese sticks, all for a mere 95 cents!!
The coupon policy post here is dated in 2008, and it differs from the policy at Target.com.
I'm going to go with the policy at Target.com, seeing as the policy could have been changed since then.
The possible changes I have noticed are:
(Your post)
-We can't give cash back if the face value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of the item; in this case, we're able to adjust the value of the coupon to equal the price of the item.
(Target.com)
-Coupon amount may be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied.
Stating the differences because I see most comments were posted 2009.
I went to our newly remodeled Target last week. I was so excited because it has been closed for the last seven months. Also in the time that they have been closed I started using cupons so I had my list and cupons ready. They allowed me to double Target and manuf. coupons no problem. Of the $40+ dollars worth of coupons three would not scan for some reason and they were all manuf. coupons. The head cashier said if they were Target coupons and would not scan they would be able to push them through, but they will not accept manuf. coupons that do not scan due to fraud issues. All of the coupns were from legetimate sites and I really think the cashier was not scanning them correctly since she had to put het thumb over one of the barcodes to scan all of them. I love Target, but what a hassel if you don't know if the coupon won't scan for some reason and then they won't accept it. What a bummer:( Has anyone else had this happen and would they take them?
The reason that they put a thumb over one of the codes on the coupon is because if the right barcode accidentally scans it will freeze up the computer for about 10 seconds or so and it's really annoying. So, the cashier was doing it correctly...
I used these same coupons at Walgreens last week without any problems. Not sure why the Target cashier could not get tehm to work.
Do my coupons for Target need to be in color or can they just be in black and white?
Black and white is fine.
Just a note regarding Targets coupon policy. In the Nov 1st weekly ad, on page 27 at the top it states "to help you save in every way possible, we accept manufacturers' coupons. We happily accept one manufacturer's and one Target coupon per item."
Some of the Target coupons say only one coupon per transaction. My store has some employees who don't read the coupons and will push them through & other ones who make you have exactly what the coupon states.
On my last experience the cashier made me do 3 separate transactions for my multiple Target coupons that stated "one per transaction". I was so peaved!
She told me that she got yelled at for putting more than one of the same Target Q's through on one transaction that stated right on the coupon that only one was allowed. I think they are getting wise to us & will be cracking down.
As a Target employee, I thought I would try and help you all out. Target will take one Target coupon and one manufacturer coupon per item. The cashiers are supposed to scan the manufacturer coupon first and then the Target coupon; they do this because the Target coupon will adjust the price if the coupons are worth more then the selling price. Target can not give money back if the coupon is worth more than the item but the cashiers can adjust the coupon to match the price. Please make sure all coupons are not voided or altered, example, photo copied. Target takes coupons from the Internet just not copied ones or expired coupons.
I know a lot of people have been frustrated with the Target coupon policy lately but so you all know so have the employees. Target was buckling down on the coupon policy for awhile but then decided to do what is best for their guests. But please do your part also and don't give expired or altered coupons and remember 1 manufacturer and 1 Target coupon per item and the coupons will adjust to match the selling price of an item.
Hope this helps!

To the Target employee, I have a question regarding internet coupons. There is a coupon available on a product manufacturers website for a $1 off one of their mouthwashes. The coupon is completely valid and I have used it at CVS before BUT it is missing an expiration date. It has the address to mail the coupon to and a barcode just no date. Will that coupon be accepted?
Holly- The system should allow the coupon, however if it doesn't and the cashier doesn't accept it, you can ask for a manager. That is manufacturer's fault there isn't an expiration date, not yours.
Thanks Anon!!
So I just back from Target and since my son had a fit in the check out line. I was unable to really watch the cashier, I just wanted to get out at this point. I handed her my stack of target and manufactator coupons, once I checked out and paid not really looking at the total noticed that I only saved 8.00. I should have saved about 15.00 I saw that she only used one of coupons that should have been two for the item. I was SOOOO UPSET since I had taken my time to do this, check it all out, organize it, dealt with my son that was having a melt down. What gets me is that she KEPT ALL the coupons, never said a thing to me about why I gave her two coupons for ONE item. IF my son was not going nuts I would have headed right back to and asked her whats the deal. I had my copied policy in my folder too.....very upsetting.
For future reference if you ever miss a coupon or don't think the right amoount was taken off and you catch it that day, you can call the store and ask to speak to Guest Service and explain what happened. You can tell them what register you were at (it's printed on the receipt) and they can pull the coupons that you said you had and the next time you go in to shop, stop by Guest Service and show them the receipt, they can pull out the coupons and if any were missed, they can do a missed coupon and you will get your money back. Just back sure you call that day.
I understand the frustration with Target, but all stores have their faults and Target is very good about trying to fix their mistakes. Pease call the store if you have a problem and voice your concern. Missing coupons is a very minor problem b/c you can call the store to see if anything could be done. The cashier probably didn't notice it and was just scanning them; the computer could have messed up not the cashier.
Anon, how many $10 off coupons can you use in one transaction? I've seen posts that people have used more than one, but just wanted to make sure before printing them out...thanks! :0)
I tried to buy the Barbie movies for 9.99 by price matching them from the Toys-R-Us ad. The lady said they only price matched weekly ads and since this price was in the "Big Book" (not a weekly ad) they couldn't do it. Anyone else had this problem?
